AFIT Professor Emeritus Receives Recognition  

Dr Peter S. Maybeck, Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering,, has been named the recipient of  of the “Captain P.V.H. Weems Award” for his lifelong accomplishments in navigation education and research. The award was presented at IEEE/ION Position Location and Navigation Symposium (PLANS) in Monterey , CA , in April, 2008.  

Dr. Peter S. Maybeck’s contributions to the advancement of the art and science of navigation are almost immeasurable. As a professor of electrical engineering at AFIT, Dr. Maybeck has directly impacted every AFIT guidance, navigation, and control graduate student since 1973 . Dr. Maybeck has been directly responsible for AFIT’s graduate sequence in estimation and stochastic control and for individual advanced digital filtering and controls courses, research, advising of masters and doctoral research, and consulting for Air Force and DoD organizations.  

 He is the author of more than one hundred technical publications on applied optimal filtering as well as the book Stochastic Models, Estimation and Control, and impacted the more than  500  guidance, navigation, and control students during his service on the AFIT faculty from 1973 unitl retirement in 2007. He is a Fellow of the IEEE
