Current Members of the Foundation Board of Trustees

Dr.James F. Brandeberry earned his B.S.E.E. in 1961 and M.S.E.E. in 1963 from the University of Toledo and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Marquette University. He worked as a design engineer in the defense industry on Titan II, Titan III and the F16 programs before joining the Wright State University engineering faculty in 1969. He served as Chair of the Department of Computer Science from 1974-1979 and as Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Wright State University until retirement in 2005. He joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 2000.  His current term ends in 2006.

Dr.Charles J. Bridgman graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1952 and entered active duty in the USAF. He earned his graduate degrees from North Carolina State University under AFIT sponsorship and was assigned to faculty duty in the School of Engineering in 1959. After several years of teaching as an Air Force officer, he accepted a civilian position as Professor and Program Chairman for Nuclear Engineering. His AFIT service also included eight years as Associate Dean for Research, School of Engineering. Upon retirement in 1997, he was named an Emeritus Professor, and may be found regularly at his office at AFIT. He joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 1999.  His current term ends in 2007.

Brig Gen (USAF Retired)David A. Herrelko earned a commission in the USAF upon graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969. He earned Master's degrees from Syracuse University and from the University of Dayton and a doctoral degree in engineering from UCLA under AFIT sponsorship. His assignments included service as Commander, Wright Laboratory; Commander, Joint Logistics Systems Center; and as Vice Commander of ASC. He retired in 1999 and joined the Board of Trustees in the same year. His current term expires in 204.  Currently, he is Technical Director for Modern Technologies Corporation, consults for several other engineering organizations, is a professional public speaker, studies Greek and Latin at Wright State University, and serves on several charitable boards.

Senator Charles F. Horn earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Purdue University and his law degrees from Cleveland State University. He served for 20 years as part owner, legal counsel and chairman of the board of a high-technology company. After serving as Mayor of Kettering and as a Montgomery County Commissioner, he was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1984 where he is currently Chair of the standing committee on Economic Development, Technology and Aerospace. He served as Chair of the Federal Labs Consortium Advisory Board and served on the National Defense Industrial Association Board. He works for interface between the Defense Labs and private industry for their mutual benefit, advocating a regional strategy. Senator Horn serves on the Ohio Thomas Edison Technology Advisory Board. He joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 1999.  His current term expires in 2008.

Col (USAF Retired)Zdzislaw H. "Stan" Lewantowicz earned a commission in the USAF upon graduation from the Lowell Technological Institute in 1968. He earned his MSEE degree through the AFIT resident program, and an MSAA through an AFIT-sponsored program at MIT. His AF assignments included a combat tour in Viet Nam as a forward air controller, other operational flying assignments, and two laboratory tours. Prior to his retirement in 1995 he served on the AFIT faculty and as Deputy Head of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is currently employed by Georgia Tech Research Institute and is serving as an IPA (on loan) to the Plans and Programs Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory where he leads and/or supports several strategic and technology focusing initiatives. He is also serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Honor Seminars of Metropolitan Dayton, Inc. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2000.  His current term expires in 2006. 

Mr. Lester McFawn, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is Executive Director of the Air Force Research Laboratory. He earned his BS and MS in electronics engineering from Florida State University and a MS in computer engineering from the University of Michigan.  He entered federal service in 1969 as a Lieutenant, USAF, in the Avionics Laboratory, and has since served in several positions in the Laboratory, the Air Armament Center, and in Headquarters, AFMC, before assuming his current position.  He serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Dayton Area Graduate Studies Institute, the Wright State School of Engineering and the Wright Brothers Institute, and joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 2005.

Col (USAF Retired)David Milam graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1963, and entered USAF pilot training. He earned his MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona under AFIT sponsorship. A graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School, he served in flight test assignments and in Special Projects before assuming a series of positions in the B1, T46, and NASP System Program Offices, and as Chief of Staff of the Aeronautical Systems Center. He retired in 1993 and took the position as President and CEO of the Wright Technology Network. He joined the Board of Trustees in 1999.  His current term expires in 2008.

Maj.Gen. (USAF Retired) Michael C. Mushala earned his commission as a distinguished AFROTC graduate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1969 and entered active duty in 1973 after completing his MS and PhD degrees in materials engineering while on educational delay. After duty as a pilot, he served on the faculty of the Air Force Academy. In later assignments included service  as Chief of the Plans Division at Headquarters AFSC; Director, AF and NASA Advanced Launch System Joint Program; Director, Cheyenne Mountain Complex System Program Office; Director of the F-22 SPO; AF Program Executive Officer for Fighter and Bomber Programs; and Director of Requirements and Director of Command Transformation, Headquarters AFMC. Since retirement from the USAF in 2003 he has served as principal at Booz Allen Hamilton in the Dayton area. He joined the Board of the Foundation in 2005 and serves as Chairman.

Brig Gen (USAF Retired)John M. Nauseef earned a commission in the USAF upon graduation from the University of Rochester in 1963.  He earned his MS through the AFIT resident program in Acquisition Logistics Management. His assignments included several postings as Director of Program Control for the F-16 Systems Program Office, Director of Programs-Budget and Director of Financial Management for the Air Force Systems Command, and the first Director of Financial Management for the Air Force Materiel Command. He joined the Board of Trustees upon retirement in 1993, with current term to expire in 2007, and is currently a senior associate with Dayton Aerospace Incorporated.

Maj Gen (USAF Ret)Everett G. Odgers earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Albuquerque and a MBA at the University of Utah. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 and earned a commission in 1972 through OTS. His career spanned all levels of comptroller and logistics positions, including assignments as fiscal control officer, auditor, major command budget staff officer and budget director, and maintenance director at an air logistics center. He served as Director of Budget Operations and Personnel, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, as Command Comptroller for AMC and, until retirement from active duty in 2002, for AFLC at Wright-Patterson AFB. General Odgers is currently the President and COO of the Greentree Group of Beavercreek OH. He joined the Foundation Board in 2004.

Maj Gen (USAF Retired)Peter W. Odgers  earned his BS and commission at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1955 and his MS degree through an AFIT sponsored program as Southern Methodist University. His assignments in Research and Development emphasized Test and Evaluation as well as Acquisition and included assignments as Commander, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB; Deputy for Test & Evaluation, Headquarters AFSC; and as Vice Commander, ASD. He directed the B-1B Strategic Bomber program and served as Deputy Director in both F-15 and A-10 System Program Offices. Following retirement in 1987, General Odgers joined the Northrop Corp. as the Corporate Director of the Northrop Dayton Office. He is presently an independent consultant. He joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 2001, with current term to expire in 2007, and serves as Chairman. 

Dr. Ruth Pachter, a member of the scientific and technical cadre of senior
executives, is a Senior Scientist in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, AFRL; Chief Scientist, Advanced Computational AnalysisDirectorate, ASC; and is an adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, AFIT.  She earned the BS in chemistry and physics at the Hebrew University, a MS in chemistry  from Technion, and the PhD, also in chemistry, at the University of South Africa. She joined the staff of AFRL in 1991 and the Foundation Board in 2005.

Mr.Roger A. Panton earned his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University and an MS in Engineering Management at the University of Dayton.  After service as a Lieutenant, USAF, he joined the federal civil service and rose through positions of increasing responsibility in the Aeronautical Systems Center.  At retirement in 1998, he was Chief of the Flight Systems Engineering Division. He is presently with Greentree Group, serving as Senior Staff Member in High Performance Computing.  He has served on the Boards of the Affiliate Societies Council,  the Engineering and Science Foundation, and the Dayton and the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame , all of Dayton and joined the Board of Trustees of the AFIT Foundation in 2005.

Dr. David H. Ponitz earned his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Michigan, and his doctorate at Harvard University. He served public schools as principal, superintendent and consultant; as President of Freeport, Waschenaw, and Sinclair Community Colleges; and as a member of the Board of Directors of numerous public organizations and private corporations. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Dayton and, upon his retirement in 1997, was named President Emeritus of Sinclair Community College. He joined the Board in 1999.  His current term expires in 2008.

Dr. Peter J. Torvik earned a commission in the USAF upon graduation from the University of Minnesota in 1960. He completed his graduate education at Minnesota while on delay from entering active duty and was then assigned to the faculty of the School of Engineering. After completing his active duty service commitment, he was offered and accepted a civilian faculty position which he retained until retirement in 1996. His AFIT service included ten years as Head of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He has been a member of the Board since 1996, with current term to expire in 2007,  and consults for both public agencies and private corporations.

Mr. William H. Wild graduated from Antioch College 1952 and, after service in the US Army, entered the field of journalism. His career included positions with newspapers in West Virginia and over 30 years at Dayton newspapers, including service as editorial page editor of the Journal Herald and associate editor of the Dayton Daily News. Since retirement in 1990, he worked as a free-lance columnist and consultant. He is the past president of the Dayton Exchange Club and of the Dayton Council on World Affairs and joined the Board of Trustees in 1987.  His current term expires in 2006.

Dr. Lynn E. Wolaver earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois following duty with the Army Air Forces in WW II. His doctorate is from the University of Michigan. During a 15 year career at AFIT he first served as Research Professor and Associate Dean for Research of the School of Engineering and then was named as the Institute's first Dean for Research. Prior to coming to AFIT, he served as Director of the Mathematics Laboratory of the Aerospace Research Laboratories. He is active in civic and political affairs,  has held the office of Mayor of the City of Fairborn, Ohio, and joined the Foundation Board of Trustees in 2000.  His current term expires in 2006.
